Matthew Shields, E.I., is a Project Engineer, where he plays a crucial role in drafting and reviewing engineering plan sets in AutoCAD. He supports the design of various residential and commercial projects, including solar PV, energy-storage, and swimming pool systems. Matthew is dedicated to researching and applying the Florida and International Building Codes and works closely with licensed professional engineers as he pursues his own PE licensure.
Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Central Florida. He joined SSE on June 16, 2025, drawn by the diverse range of projects and the opportunity to gain personal experience essential for his P.E.
Before joining SSE, Matthew was actively involved with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) during his college years. He was recognized as Student of the Year for his student chapter and was a key member of the concrete canoe team, progressing from team member to construction captain and ultimately head captain. While early in his professional career, Matthew has also gained experience as a camp counselor and as a technician for audio, video, and internet solutions for commercial businesses, notably handling the audio-video setup for the Formula One Miami GP in 2022.
His academic focus was on geotechnical engineering and water resources. What excites Matthew most about his work at SSE is the opportunity to contribute to projects that enhance the lives of everyday people, whether through renewable solar power for businesses or new pools for homeowners.Outside of work, Matthew enjoys DIY projects and spending time on the water, primarily kayaking.
